Jungle Marathon on TV
Lowriís epic Jungle adventure ñ on S4CA Swansea presenter has undertaken one of the worldís greatest extreme challenges, and her preparations and efforts will be documented in a new S4C series which headlines the channelís New Years line-up.
Lowri Morgan, who is best known for presenting S4Cís rallying series RalÔo, faces the toughest challenge of her life ñ the Jungle Marathon in the Amazon ñin the four-part series, Ras yn Erbyn Amser.
Lowri is challenged by pupils at her old school, Ysgol Gyfun Gŵyr, to take part in the Jungle Marathon in the Amazon, Brazil. It's the worldís toughest endurance event, where participants race over 200km in seven days, self-sufficiently, in a bid to raise awareness of global climate change.
During the first three programmes, which are stripped over three consecutive nights from Tuesday, 5 January, cameras follow Lowri through the highs and lows of her intensive 18-month preparations. The training schedule sees her attempt one of the most difficult Royal Marine assault courses and exercise in an Environmental Chamber at Bath University where she gets a taste of the heat and humidity sheíll experience in the Amazon.
As part of her training, she also runs between 30 and 100 miles each week, along the streets of Swansea, the beaches of the Gower peninsula and the Brecon Beacons.
An hour-long edition of Ras yn Erbyn Amser, broadcast on Saturday, 9 January, will follow Lowri to South America. Traditionally, the marathon has a 40% failure rate, so will all her hard work pay off as she undertakes this epic battle against time?
Lowri, 34, originally from Gowerton, says, "Excitement was the first thing that went through my mind once the challenge was set. But I hadnít realised the true extent of the challenge and what was ahead of me. I hadnít thought about the weather, climate, heat or the weight Iíd be carrying on my back. Iíve been nervous for over a year ñ the Jungle Marathon has completely taken over my life.
"There were good days and bad ñ more bad days if Iím completely honest. But Iíve got a stubborn nature, and the support of my family and friends was an extra incentive. I was determined to fight against all the elements. Iím the type of person who likes to do their best in everything, and I worked so hard for this challenge ñ failing was never an option."
S4C is available on all platforms in Wales and on Sky 134 and Freesat 120 in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
